Opposition Innovation Faction's Principle and Common Sense: "Lee Jae-myung, Make a Decisive Move to Ban Satellite Parties"

The group 'Principles and Common Sense (Kim Jong-min, Yoon Young-chan, Lee Won-wook, Cho Eung-cheon)', consisting of non-mainstream and reformist members of the Democratic Party of Korea, urged Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, to decisively legislate a 'ban on satellite parties.'

On the 27th, Kim Jong-min and other 'Principles and Common Sense' lawmakers stated through their social networking services (SNS), "There must be no regression in the electoral system."

The 'regression in the electoral system' pointed out by Principles and Common Sense refers to a return to the parallel proportional representation system. Instead of reverting to the parallel proportional representation system to prevent the current shortcomings of the semi-linked proportional representation system, such as the proliferation of satellite parties, they advocate maintaining the current system through legislation banning satellite parties.

They said, "The very act of worrying about whether to regress the electoral system is a deviation from the spirit and path of the Democratic Party," and raised their voices, saying, "If our party uses the People Power Party as an excuse and agrees to the parallel system, that would be a political collusion."

They added, "If they intend to engage in such collusion, they should start by taking down the photos of Kim Dae-jung and Roh Moo-hyun hanging in the party office."

Principles and Common Sense also stated, "Just before the 20th presidential election, we temporarily suspended election campaigning and held an emergency party meeting on the night of February 27, 2022, adopting the 'National Integration Political Reform Plan,' which included the 'linked proportional representation system for National Assembly elections,' as the party's official stance," and added, "If the Lee Jae-myung leadership breaks those numerous promises and engages in electoral law collusion, we will risk everything and join forces with conscientious Democratic Party lawmakers to stop it."
