Guro-gu (Mayor Moon Heon-il) held the 2023 Social Welfare Forum (hereinafter referred to as the ‘Open Discussion’) on the 23rd at the auditorium on the 5th floor of the district office under the theme “Limitations and Countermeasures of Mental Health Case Management.”

The Social Welfare Open Discussion is a communication platform where difficulties experienced in the field of social welfare are shared and countermeasures are discussed jointly by the public and private sectors. It was first held last year upon the proposal of the Guro-gu Community Social Security Council, and this year marks the second time.

This year’s discussion aimed to explore countermeasures for the hardships and limitations encountered in intervention and case management for individuals facing mental health challenges in the social welfare field.

Experts’ presentations and discussions were held with the participation of 120 people, including Mayor Moon Heon-il, members of the Community Social Security Council, social welfare workers, and local residents.

Kang Min-jung, Deputy Director of Dobong-gu Mental Health Welfare Center, presented on schizophrenia, depression, and suicide, while Kim Yong-jin, Director of the Addiction Prevention Research Institute at Welfare and People, presented on addiction with intervention and management methods by type.

Following this, under the chairmanship of Jung Jong-woon, the private sector chairperson of the representative council, a discussion on response measures in the social welfare field was conducted with two presenters, Moon Young-shin, Director of Guro-gu Public Health Center, and Choi Sun-mi, Manager of Hwawon Comprehensive Social Welfare Center. Afterwards, there was a Q&A session with participants.

Mayor Moon Heon-il stated, “The Social Welfare Open Discussion will play an important role in advancing the welfare sector,” adding, “With the valuable insights from public and private welfare officials and experts attending the forum, we will strive to create a warm journey together with the residents.”
