Yangcheon-gu, Free Collection of 7,000 Tons of Annual Waste Wood for Woodchip Recycling

Greenhouse Gas Reduction of Over 7,300 Tons... Annual Incineration Cost Savings of 300 Million KRW, Promoting Resource Circulation by Recycling into Renewable Energy, Responding to the Climate Crisis

Yangcheon-gu, Free Collection of 7,000 Tons of Annual Waste Wood for Woodchip Recycling The process of turning waste wood into wood chips, an eco-friendly renewable energy source

Yangcheon-gu (District Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced that it will engage in recycling waste resources by signing a business agreement for free disposal and recycling of waste wood to implement budget savings and carbon-neutral administration through virtuous resource circulation in the era of climate crisis.

Earlier, on the 16th, the district signed a business agreement with Cheonil Energy, an eco-friendly energy innovation company, to entrust the transportation, disposal, and recycling of waste wood free of charge. The agreement involves processing all waste wood generated in Yangcheon-gu into "wood chips," which are gaining attention as an alternative to fossil fuels and an eco-friendly renewable energy source.

Until now, the district has collected waste wood, a type of large waste generated locally, through private contractors, then dismantled and either incinerated or landfilled it. The annual amount of waste wood generated by the district averaged 7,000 tons last year, accounting for about 50% of the 14,124 tons of waste that cannot be brought into public treatment facilities annually.

Through this agreement, the district expects to save 300 million KRW annually and reduce approximately 7,300 tons of greenhouse gases per year, significantly contributing to responding to the climate crisis and promoting virtuous resource circulation.

Lee Gi-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, said, "This agreement to recycle discarded waste wood into an eco-friendly renewable energy source not only reduces disposal costs but also aligns with the climate change response policy." He added, "We will continue to actively discover diverse resource circulation policies through public-private cooperation to create a clean city Yangcheon with a promising future."
