UN Security Council Emergency Meeting on 27th... Official Discussion on North Korea's Military Reconnaissance Satellite Launch

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) will hold an emergency meeting on the 27th (local time) to discuss responses to North Korea's military reconnaissance satellite launch.

According to the UN headquarters on the 26th, the Security Council will hold an official meeting at 10 a.m. on the 27th (midnight on the 28th Korean time) at the UN headquarters in New York to discuss non-proliferation issues related to North Korea. This meeting was convened at the request of eight member states, including the United States, Japan, and the United Kingdom, to discuss the Security Council's response to North Korea's military reconnaissance satellite launch on the 21st. South Korea will also attend the meeting as an interested party.

Earlier, UN Secretary-General Ant?nio Guterres strongly condemned North Korea's military reconnaissance satellite launch on the 21st as a violation of Security Council resolutions. However, since permanent members such as China and Russia are defending North Korea's position, it is expected to be difficult to achieve visible outcomes such as a Security Council statement condemning North Korea or the adoption of a resolution at this meeting.
