Fruit prices have been found to be higher compared to last year.
According to the agricultural product distribution information from the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation (aT) on the 26th, as of the 24th, the retail price of tangerines (open field) was 3,564 won for 10 pieces, which is 13.5% more expensive than 3,141 won a year ago. Compared to the average price (2,998 won), it is 18.9% higher.
The average price is the mean value excluding the maximum and minimum prices from 2018 to last year. The rise in tangerine prices appears to be due to an overall increase in agricultural production costs and a significant rise in prices of other fruits, leading to increased demand for tangerines as a substitute.
This year, due to weather impacts such as abnormal low temperatures in spring, heatwaves in summer, and heavy rains, prices of fruits like apples and persimmons have also remained higher than a year ago.
The price of apples (Fuji, commercial grade) is 28,442 won for 10 pieces, which is 27.1% more expensive than a year ago and 29.3% higher than the average price.
The price of persimmons (commercial grade) is 16,354 won for 10 pieces, which is 46.5% and 51.7% more expensive compared to a year ago and the average price, respectively.
The price of pears (Shingo, commercial grade) is 26,854 won for 10 pieces, which is 4.9% higher than a year ago but 15.2% cheaper than the average price.
Among vegetables, cherry tomatoes (commercial grade) are priced at 10,856 won per 1 kg, which is 33.5% higher than a year ago and 42.6% more expensive than the average price.
The price of melons (commercial grade) is 13,184 won per piece, which is 19.2% and 31.4% more expensive compared to a year ago and the average price, respectively.
