T Map Mobility Analyzes Average Driving Scores by Age Group
Men Peak in Their 40s and 50s, Women Show Steady Increase
A survey in Korea revealed that men in their mid-40s to early 50s are the best drivers. In contrast, men in their early to mid-20s were found to be the worst drivers.
T map Mobility, a mobility subsidiary under SK Square, analyzed the average driving scores by age group of users registered in the 'T map Driving Score' and released the results on the 26th.
This analysis targeted users who registered their vehicle, gender, and age and drove more than 500 km (63% of vehicle registrants), dividing the age groups into 15 segments to analyze the average driving scores of male and female drivers by age group.
The survey results showed that among all male and female groups, only three groups scored above 80 points. Men in their late 40s and early 50s scored 80.4 points, and those in their mid-40s scored 80.1 points. This was 2.8 points higher on average than female drivers in the same age group. Among women, drivers in their early, mid, and late 60s recorded the highest scores in the 79-point range.
On the other hand, among all driver groups, men in their early to mid-20s had the lowest driving scores, remaining the only group in the 60-point range. Their scores were 67.5 and 68.2 points respectively, which was on average 3.5 points lower than women of the same age group.
Men’s driving scores were lowest in their early 20s, peaked in their late 40s to early 50s, and then showed a declining trend. In contrast, women’s scores steadily increased from their early 20s through their late 60s.
T map Mobility analyzed that the reason men’s driving scores increase after their late 30s is likely because they become more conscious of safe driving due to family considerations.
Regarding vehicle preferences by gender and age group, from the early 20s to mid-30s, the preferred car models were Avante, Sonata, and K5 in that order. However, in the late 30s to mid-40s, when driving scores peak, preferences shifted to SUVs such as Sorento and Carnival.
For women, Avante was the most used model across all age groups. For the second and third most preferred models, from the early 20s to mid-40s, most preferred compact cars like Morning and Spark. Women only preferred Grandeur in their late 60s.
