Yongsan-gu Receives Minister of Gender Equality and Family Commendation for Out-of-School Youth Support Project

Yongsan-gu, Seoul (Mayor Park Hee-young), which operates the Yongsan-gu Youth Support Center (hereinafter Dream Dream) on consignment, has received the Minister of Gender Equality and Family Award in the Excellent Institution category.

This achievement comes as a result of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family holding a report conference on the out-of-school youth support project for 222 Dream Dream centers nationwide and evaluating the project operation over three years from 2021 to 2023.

Dream Dream is a center that helps out-of-school youth aged 9 to 24 return to school or enter society, supporting them to grow into healthy members of society.

In particular, at this report conference, Yongsan-gu Dream Dream was recognized for its multifaceted efforts to improve difficulties caused by the decrease in activities of out-of-school youth due to the spread of COVID-19 in 2020.

To provide individually tailored services to out-of-school youth experiencing depression, lethargy, and decreased academic motivation, various online and offline programs were conducted, including ▲basic literacy education ▲cultural experiences ▲self-development ▲GED support ▲qualification acquisition support ▲job experience.

To discover new out-of-school youth, Yongsan-gu Dream Dream encouraged applications through various channels.

By producing promotional videos and posting them on YouTube, and communicating with out-of-school youth through media such as Facebook and Instagram, awareness and accessibility of Yongsan-gu Dream Dream were increased.

In cooperation with related organizations in the region, educational expenses, qualification acquisition fees, housing environment improvement costs, and living expenses worth a total of 51.96 million KRW were provided to 64 out-of-school youth and their families to ensure that necessary resources were appropriately supplied.

Park Hee-young, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, said, “There are youths who have left school due to their own circumstances,” and added, “Even if they are not students, we will firmly support them to become confident members of society through dreams and visions.”

Meanwhile, as of last month, 131 out-of-school youth are using Yongsan-gu Dream Dream, which provides ▲counseling and educational support ▲self-reliance support ▲job experience ▲qualification acquisition support ▲self-development ▲meal support, considering individual characteristics and situations.
