Japanese automaker Nissan Motor is set to invest an additional 2 billion pounds (approximately 3.3 trillion won) in its European production hub, the Sunderland plant in central England, according to reports by Yomiuri Shimbun and Nihon Keizai Shimbun (Nikkei) on the 25th.

According to the reports, Nissan has already invested 1 billion pounds (approximately 1.65 trillion won) in the Sunderland plant, bringing the total investment to an estimated maximum of 3 billion pounds.
With the additional investment, Nissan plans to produce three new electric vehicle models and establish a new battery factory. Nissan aims to sell only electric vehicles in Europe starting from 2030, and by expanding investment in the Sunderland plant, it intends to strengthen its electric vehicle production system. The Sunderland plant produces over 400,000 new cars annually.
