Japanese Foreign Minister Kamikawa Yoko announced on the 24th that she will visit Busan from the 25th to the 26th to attend the 10th Korea-China-Japan Foreign Ministers' Meeting held in Busan.
At a press conference that day, Foreign Minister Kamikawa said, "This meeting, held for the first time in about four years, is a preparation for the Korea-China-Japan summit. We plan to discuss the direction of cooperation among the three countries in the current international environment, specific cooperative agendas that will be mutually beneficial, and various challenges."
The trilateral foreign ministers' meeting is scheduled to be held on the 26th in Busan, chaired by Park Jin, South Korea's Minister of Foreign Affairs, with Wang Yi, China's Foreign Minister, and Foreign Minister Kamikawa attending.
When asked about the impact of the previous day's appellate court ruling in favor of the Japanese military comfort women victims' compensation claims on bilateral relations, she cited North Korea's repeated ballistic missile launches using advanced technology as an example and said, "I believe there has never been a time when close cooperation not only between Japan and the U.S. but also between South Korea and Japan is more necessary than now."
Regarding the ruling the previous day, she said, "I have already conveyed to the Korean side that it is extremely regrettable and absolutely unacceptable as it goes against international law and agreements between the two countries," adding, "I want to continue to demand that the Korean side take appropriate measures."
