The KBS Symphony Orchestra will perform Schumann's Symphony No. 2 at its regular concerts titled "Between Silence and Passion," held on the 25th at Lotte Concert Hall and on the 26th at Art Center Incheon. The first piece of the day’s program is the overture to Schubert's opera "Fierrabras," composed on commission for the Vienna Court Theatre. Following this, Midori will perform Bart?k's Violin Concerto No. 2.

Midori was born in Osaka, Japan, in 1971 and celebrated her 40th debut anniversary in the 2022?2023 season. She moved to the United States in 1982 and was discovered by the world-renowned conductor Zubin Mehta at the age of 11, beginning her career as a violinist with the New York Philharmonic. She has released over 20 albums to date and received the Avery Fisher Prize in 2001. The Avery Fisher Prize is a prestigious American music award given to performers who have made significant contributions to the field of classical music. In 1992, Midori founded the nonprofit organization "Midori & Friends," dedicating herself to social activism as well.

Schumann's Symphony No. 2, which the KBS Symphony Orchestra will perform in the second half, is the longest-composed among Schumann’s four symphonies. It was written during his recovery from a nervous breakdown. The piece reflects Schumann’s difficult circumstances at the time, expressing his struggles, but it also reveals a variety of colors and is regarded as a work that is not entirely dark.
