BPA Completes Architectural Design for New Port Smart Joint Logistics Center ... Providing Port-Type Fulfillment Services

Busan Port Authority (BPA) has completed the architectural design for the smart joint logistics center within the New Port hinterland complex.

On the 22nd, BPA held the final report meeting for the smart joint logistics center design service.

The event was attended by officials from the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, Busan Regional Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Office, operator Cools, design service firm Haengrim Comprehensive Architects, and construction project management team HK Architects, who reported on the architectural design results including the logistics center’s layout plan, spatial composition, and landscape plan, followed by a Q&A session on detailed matters.

The logistics center is part of the government’s ‘Digital New Deal’ policy, receiving 26 billion KRW in national funding, with a total project cost of 88 billion KRW.

The center will be constructed on a site of 125,660㎡ with a total floor area of 31,440㎡ over three above-ground floors in the New Port West Container Terminal (Phase 1) port hinterland complex. Construction is scheduled to begin in the first half of 2024 and be completed by October 2026.

BPA designed the center by combining the advantages of major logistics centers nationwide, aiming to build a standardized joint logistics center from the planning stage. Key facilities include a vehicle ramp allowing cargo trucks to directly access the upper levels, ambient temperature warehouses, cold storage warehouses, loading/unloading spaces, and operation/support facilities.

The interior structure was planned with a 12m column spacing to allow smooth passage of transport equipment such as forklifts and efficient placement of storage facilities. The floor height was designed at 10.5m to accommodate automation equipment including conveyors, AGVs, and advanced logistics devices.

Externally, considering that this is the first port facility to be built in a free trade zone in Korea, container yards and refrigerated container storage will also be introduced to provide port-type fulfillment services capable of handling import and export logistics cargo.

Kang Jun-seok, President of BPA, stated, “By establishing the smart joint logistics center, we will build infrastructure for smart logistics at Busan Port, which is expected to greatly support the logistics activities of small and medium logistics companies and the generation of cargo volume at Busan Port.”
