The group 'Principles and Common Sense,' consisting of non-mainstream and reformist members of the Democratic Party of Korea, raised their voices to push for the 'Satellite Party Prevention Act' as the party's official stance.
On the 23rd, Kim Jong-min, a Democratic Party lawmaker, and other members of Principles and Common Sense stated through social media (SNS), "We urge to promote the Satellite Party Prevention Act as a recommended party policy."
Since the current 'semi-proportional representation system' has the problem of the proliferation of satellite parties, the possibility of reverting to a 'parallel proportional representation system' is being discussed, and to prevent this, the Satellite Party Prevention Act is necessary.
They said, "There are growing voices inside and outside the party to push for the Satellite Party Prevention Act. However, the leadership has no clear response," adding, "Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party leader, and our party have declared this several times. We must keep our promises."
They continued, "If we follow the People Power Party by calculating pros and cons, that would be a typical case of 'saying one thing and doing another,'" and added, "Among the existing proposed bills, the 'Min Hyung-bae bill' and the 'Park Seong-jun bill,' which mandate the nomination of proportional representation candidates by major parties, should be adopted as the party's official stance and quickly brought to the plenary session."
