Gwanak-gu Supports Up to 6 Million KRW for Small Business Internship Hiring

According to the employment trends announced on November 15 for October, the employment rate reached an all-time high of 63.3%, while the unemployment rate recorded an all-time low of 2.1%. Recently, the labor market has shown a 'Job-rich Recovery'.

Additionally, according to the Small and Medium Business Administration's Small Business Economic Outlook Survey (as of August 2023), the main management difficulties faced by small businesses (multiple responses allowed) were sluggish domestic demand (about 60%) and rising labor costs (about 47%).

In response, Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Junhee) is operating the ‘2023 Gwanak-type Small Business Internship’ program to alleviate the management burden on small businesses and accelerate the expansion of employment opportunities for residents.

The ‘Gwanak-type Small Business Internship’ is a program that supports part of the labor costs for up to six months when small businesses in the region hire unemployed residents aged 18 or older, who are registered in Gwanak-gu, as interns.

First, the district supports 1 million KRW per month per intern to the company during the 3-month internship period. Furthermore, companies that convert interns to full-time employees and confirm employment for more than three months will receive an additional three months of support, providing up to 6 million KRW in total.

Eligible applicants are small businesses located in Gwanak-gu with five or more regular employees.

Each company can hire up to two interns. Companies wishing to participate should bring their business registration certificate, small business confirmation, and other documents to the Gwanak-gu Office Job Venture Division by November 30 on a first-come, first-served basis.

The final selection will be announced in December, after which companies can hire interns accordingly.

For more details, contact the Gwanak-gu Office Job Venture Division or check the announcement posted on the Gwanak-gu website (News & Notices → Public Announcements).

Mayor Park Junhee said, “I hope this internship support program will ease the burden on small businesses hesitant to hire new employees due to the economic downturn and provide a good opportunity for all job-seeking residents.” He added, “We will continue to actively support job programs that benefit both local businesses and residents.”
