Suwon City Shifts Direction from Regulating to Voluntary Practice of Single-Use Item Usage Suwon City Hall

The city of Suwon in Gyeonggi Province has decided to encourage citizens to voluntarily practice resource recycling in accordance with the Ministry of Environment's announced management plan for regulating the use of disposable products.

Earlier on the 7th, the Ministry of Environment announced that to reduce the burden on small business owners and minimize confusion on site, the policy direction for managing disposable products will shift from 'imposing fines' to 'support policies based on voluntary participation.'

The main points include encouraging the use of alternatives such as reusable shopping bags and volume-based waste bags instead of plastic bags, extending the guidance period for plastic straws and recommending the use of alternatives, and excluding paper cups from regulations.

The Suwon city government plans to accurately inform the relevant industries about the revised management measures for paper cups and plastic straws, and continuously promote participation so that all citizens voluntarily reduce the use of disposable products.

A Suwon city official stated, "We will do our best to promote the policy to prevent confusion on site following the Ministry of Environment's announcement on the shift in disposable product regulations," and urged, "We ask citizens to reduce the use of disposable products and make the use of reusable products a daily habit."
