Changwon Special City Holds Groundbreaking Ceremony for Geunju Community Center

Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Geunju Eoullim Center, an urban regeneration hub facility, on the afternoon of the 22nd at Geunju Park in Seokjeon-dong, Masanhwoin-gu.

The Seokjeon-dong urban regeneration recognized project will invest a total of 10.6 billion KRW over five years from 2021 to 2025 to build the Geunju Eoullim Center, a complex facility combining living SOC projects for residents' welfare and administrative facilities to revitalize the local community and improve residents' living environment.


The Geunju Eoullim Center, a multi-functional hub space for administrative facilities as well as residents' gatherings, culture, and education, will have one basement floor and four above-ground floors, with a total area of 2,872㎡. The basement floor will be a parking lot, the first floor will house the administrative civil service center, the second floor will include resident welfare facilities such as a village caf?, a win-win creative workshop, and a home repair project team, the third floor will have a gym and a multipurpose room, and the fourth floor will contain a library and education rooms.


In particular, profits generated from revenue businesses such as the gym and caf? will be returned to the local community for the development of the village community, contributing to village revitalization.


A resident capacity-building project is also underway to enable residents to operate the facility independently. After the center is built, it is planned to be operated under consignment by a village management social cooperative, and various urban regeneration education programs are being promoted to help residents understand urban regeneration and strengthen their capabilities. Based on this, sustainable urban regeneration will be pursued where village residents can become self-reliant and self-sustaining even after the completion of the urban regeneration project.


About 150 people, including Jo Myeong-rae, the 2nd Vice Mayor, local provincial and city council members, and residents of Seokjeon-dong, attended the event, where a safety slogan was chanted to pray for accident-free construction during the construction period.


Vice Mayor Jo said, “I am confident that the construction and operation of the Geunju Eoullim Center will bring new changes and vitality to the city center,” adding, “Together with the Seokjeon-dong urban regeneration project, we will lead innovative growth that will take responsibility for the next 50 years, advancing Changwon as a city full of happiness and vitality, a city of refined culture, and a central city in Northeast Asia.”
