Prosecution Detains and Charges Man in His 20s for Stabbing Mother with a Weapon

The 4th Criminal Division of the Seoul Northern District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Song Jeong-eun) announced on the 21st that a man in his 20s, identified as A, was arrested and indicted on the 17th for attempting to kill his mother by stabbing her with a weapon when she visited his rented residence.

A is accused of attempting to kill his mother in her 50s by stabbing her in the abdomen and neck with a weapon from the kitchen on the 5th at a villa in Dobong-dong, Dobong-gu, Seoul, where he was living alone, due to her refusal to give him pocket money (attempted parricide).

It was confirmed that the house where A resided was owned by his mother.

During police investigation, A exercised his right to remain silent regarding the motive for the crime, and the police inferred from other family members' statements that there had been conflicts over pocket money.

It is known that A also refused to testify about the motive during the prosecution's investigation, but the prosecution explained that they identified the motive and specific details of the crime through investigations of related parties.

The prosecution also requested support from the Crime Victim Support Center for on-site cleanup costs of the victim’s home, medical expenses, and psychological treatment support.
