YLAB is showing strong performance. The news that Naver is launching a game streaming (live broadcast) platform has drawn attention to YLAB, which holds the intellectual property (IP) of Naver Webtoon titles adapted into games.
As of 1:26 PM on the 21st, YLAB is trading at 8,670 KRW, up 5.09% compared to the previous day.
According to industry sources, Naver plans to launch a new service specialized in game live streaming next year. The service will include a user interface (UI) optimized for game broadcasts, various community features, and sponsorship functions.
According to market research firm Statista, the revenue size of the game live streaming market, which was $4.8 billion (6.2155 trillion KRW) in 2017, has grown significantly to $11.7 billion (15.1105 trillion KRW) in 2023.
Naver is considering launching the game streaming platform under a separate brand rather than using the Naver brand. It is also reportedly considering integration with existing Naver short-form services and shopping live.
Meanwhile, YLAB, a webtoon studio established in 2010, owns 9 out of the top 15 Naver Webtoon titles as of last year. It is actively pursuing game adaptations and video productions based on popular IPs. Naver and CJ ENM each hold a 9.67% stake in the company.
