Gwangju City Provides Local Tax Support for 70 Victims of Jeonse Fraud

Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 20th that it will provide local tax support to 70 victims of jeonse fraud in the Gwangju area, as confirmed by the deliberation and resolution of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's Jeonse Fraud Victim Support Committee.

The support includes a reduction of acquisition tax up to 2 million KRW when a jeonse fraud victim acquires the damaged property. Property tax will be reduced by 50% for damaged properties with an exclusive area of 60㎡ or less, and by 25% for those exceeding 60㎡, for three years from the initial establishment of the tax obligation. Additionally, registration license tax for lease rights registration to protect the victim's lease rights will be exempted until 2026.

Furthermore, if the damaged property is under seizure or sale procedures, the victim can apply to the head of the local government for a postponement or suspension of the sale process before the sale decision date. When attempting to collect the landlord’s delinquent local taxes through local tax delinquency measures, the victim can request proportional application based on the price ratio of all houses owned by the landlord.

Previously, tenants could view the landlord’s unpaid local taxes only with the landlord’s consent and before the contract date. However, since April 2023, if the tenant’s deposit exceeds 10 million KRW, they can view this information anywhere nationwide without the landlord’s consent.
