Jongno-gu (District Mayor Jeong Munheon) will provide electric blankets to residents in vulnerable housing conditions to prepare for the cold wave until the 30th of this month.

This is to ensure that low-income residents living in harsh environments can spend this winter warmly and safely.

Accordingly, starting from the 20th of last month, before the onset of severe cold, electric blankets have been provided to local basic livelihood security recipients, near-poverty groups, and others using funds sponsored by the Seoul Social Welfare Community Chest. The total number of beneficiaries is 128.

The products were selected with an automatic power shut-off feature to prevent heating appliance fire accidents, which frequently occur during winter, and an instruction leaflet on the proper use of electric blankets is also distributed.

Additionally, the community center staff, local community security councils, and Our Neighborhood Care Group will regularly check on the well-being of residents, including the beneficiaries, who live in poor housing conditions, and will strive to build a thorough welfare safety net.

Meanwhile, Jongno-gu also provided electric blankets to vulnerable residents for winter survival in 2022.

Furthermore, over the past five years from 2019 to this year, the district has supported the installation of over 700 air conditioners, focusing on protecting residents against seasonal changes such as heat waves and cold waves.

A Jongno-gu official said, “We hope this will help neighbors facing economic difficulties to overcome the harsh winter cold wave even a little,” and added, “We will regularly check on the safety of low-income households and carefully ensure that no residents are left isolated.”
