DA Technology announced on the 20th that it will strengthen its robot business cooperation with Corisen.
DA Technology plans to first collaborate on the biometric authentication system and next-generation version development of intelligent service robots being conducted by Corisen. Additionally, they intend to carry out comprehensive cooperation including the development of batteries for robots.
Corisen is the only company in Korea that possesses a 'finger vein biometric authentication system' which identifies individuals through the unique pattern of veins inside the finger. Corisen's self-developed finger vein identification technology has been recognized for its technical excellence, being installed in LG Electronics' medical service robot ‘Chloe’ for the first time. Corisen is currently developing low-vein algorithms in the form of ultra-thin 3rd and 4th generation modules.
DA Technology has secured laser patterning technology in the ultra-small secondary battery sector, which is the energy source for robots. This technology is a core technology based on a flexible laser processing method that processes complex-shaped patterned batteries. Having already been recognized for its technological prowess, last year it exported laser patterning equipment worth 12 billion KRW to a US Nasdaq-listed company manufacturing wearable devices for the first time in Korea.
In May, the two companies signed an MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) to promote cooperation in secondary batteries, robots, and permanent magnet businesses, and have been collaborating on business such as the commercialization of robots, drones, and non-rare-earth permanent magnets called ‘Manganese-Bismuth (Mn-Bi) Ferrite’.
A company official explained, “As the global market for intelligent (AI) robots such as service robots, delivery robots, and security robots expands recently, target identification and security for robots have emerged as important issues,” adding, “Corisen has been continuing robot-related business with major domestic companies for a long time, and recently discussions on collaboration with domestic and international robot-related companies have become more concrete.”
Following the full enforcement of the amendment to the ‘Act on the Development and Promotion of Intelligent Robots’ on the 17th, the robot business cooperation between DA Technology and Corisen is expected to gain further momentum.
Until now, outdoor movement of robots was a legally undefined concept. Except for some private properties and regulatory sandbox areas, when operating robots in public facilities, users had to accompany and operate them, and robots could not autonomously drive alone. With the enforcement of the amendment, outdoor movement of robots will be permitted in Korea. Accordingly, various services such as logistics delivery, patrol, and security through robots are expected to be provided.
