Gyeongbuk Office of Education (Superintendent Lim Jong-sik) will operate winter seasonal schools for students with disabilities for about two weeks during the 2023 winter vacation at 8 special schools and 22 special education support centers.
The seasonal schools are operated every summer and winter vacation to provide continuous educational activity opportunities for special education students during vacation, improve social adaptability through participation in various experiential events, and reduce private education expenses for parents as well as support families.
To operate the winter seasonal schools this time, the Gyeongbuk Office of Education plans to receive operation plans from each special school by the 27th and support 3.6 million KRW per class for labor and operating expenses.
The seasonal school operation period will be about two weeks, and each school will operate independently reflecting the circumstances of the school and region.
During last summer vacation, 114 classes at 8 special schools and 50 classes at regional education support office special education support centers operated seasonal schools.
The number of students per seasonal school class is operated with about 4-5 for kindergarten, 6-7 for elementary and middle school classes, and 7-8 for high school students to support individualized education.
The programs are uniquely operated reflecting the needs and conditions of students and parents, including independent living, community adaptation, experiential learning, arts and physical education, career and vocational education, and care.
The Gyeongbuk Office of Education plans to thoroughly check and guide the prevention of safety accidents in advance, safety on the way to and from school, school violence, and protection of the human rights of students with disabilities during the operation of the winter vacation seasonal schools, while strictly adhering to and preventing infectious disease prevention rules.
To this end, hygiene and safety will be prioritized when providing food, and disinfection and purchase of health supplies for each class will also be supported.
Lim Jong-sik, Superintendent of Gyeongbuk Office of Education, said, “We will provide continuous opportunities for education and experience so that special education students can enhance their sense of achievement through participation in various programs operated at schools or special education support centers during the winter vacation, develop their talents and aptitudes, and improve their social adaptability.”
