Support for Education and Experience to Solve Environmental Issues
Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 20th that it has selected 'Heungdeok Village' in Yeongdeok 1-dong, Giheung-gu, and 'Namsan Village' in Agok 1-ri, Namsa-eup, Cheoin-gu as pilot sites for the 'Yongin Ae (愛) Environmental Village' project, which is part of the environment education specialized village project.
'Yongin Ae Environmental Village' is a customized environmental education project where residents directly analyze the local environment and find tailored environmental education and practical solutions. The city explained that it plans to promote various types of projects, such as urban and rural types, considering regional characteristics.
Heungdeok Village, selected as the urban-type pilot village, will conduct basic environmental education, as well as practical and experiential activities for village residents to find solutions for food waste disposal and village cleaning issues within the apartment complex. The basic environmental education will focus on ▲leaders ▲climate change ▲resource circulation ▲carbon neutrality. Residents will share achievements through the carbon neutrality practice program and discuss ways for citizens to participate in climate change policies.
'Namsan Village' will be conducted as a rural type. Here, through expert consultation on ▲waste disposal ▲resource circulation processes, management and reduction of general waste, recyclable waste, and food waste will be promoted. Ecological experiences and tours of food waste treatment facilities and water quality management facilities will also be conducted.
The pilot project period is until December next year, and the city plans to form a support group including the education support office, private organizations, and environmental education experts to support the project.
A city official said, "We selected environmental education villages so that residents of the villages chosen for the pilot project can learn about environmental issues and solve problems on their own," adding, "We will present a new environmental education city model through Yongin-type social environmental education reflecting the characteristics of the region."
