Selected as a National Support Project for APC in Northwestern Gyeongnam
Double Celebration as Namgeochang Nonghyup APC Also Selected
On the 20th, Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam announced that the Northwest Gyeongnam Hub APC Facility Improvement Project was selected for the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs' ‘Fruit Production and Distribution Support Project’ for next year, securing 2.2 billion KRW in national and local government funding (total project cost of 3.3 billion KRW).
Namgeochang Nonghyup also secured 2.3 billion KRW in national and local government funding (total project cost of 5 billion KRW) for the ‘Agricultural Products Production Area Distribution Center (APC) Support Project.’
The Northwest Gyeongnam Hub APC, operated under consignment by the Geochanghan Geochang Cooperative Joint Business Corporation, plans to complete automated facilities necessary for agricultural product commercialization by 2024 through replacing outdated sorting machines, cold storage equipment, and establishing a management system (ERP), with a total project cost of 3.36 billion KRW.
Additionally, Namgeochang Nonghyup APC is constructing a new onion sorting and drying facility, cold storage, and smart equipment (automatic sorting machines) with a total project cost of 50 million KRW, in response to the recent increase in onion farming households and cultivation area. This aims to regulate supply and demand during flood harvest periods and respond to price drops through commercialization, thereby securing regional agricultural competitiveness.
The two selected sites plan to build smart APCs to modernize facilities and centralize distribution by processing large volumes and managing data as representative APCs of Geochang-gun, operating by production area to establish distribution hubs.
Smart APCs utilize advanced technologies such as robots, sensors, and communication to automate tasks including receipt, storage, sorting, packaging, and shipment of agricultural products. Based on accumulated data and digital information, these are advanced agricultural product production area distribution facilities linked to related businesses from production areas to consumers. Through this project selection, Geochang-gun takes the first step toward integrated marketing centered on production areas.
In particular, through this project, the county plans to develop the Geochang-gun Agricultural Products Production Area Distribution Center (APC) into a core small-scale distribution facility within the agricultural product production area by automating and informatizing the entire process from collection to shipment into a smart APC.
County Governor Gu In-mo stated, “For our Geochang-gun agricultural products to receive fair prices in the future, simply shipping raw agricultural products to auction markets is not enough. We must create added value through advanced distribution and processing facilities within the region.” He added, “We will strive to enhance product quality and ensure that high-quality Geochang-gun agricultural products receive fair prices and generate income for farmers through the introduction and installation of smart APCs.”
