Seoul Autonomous Districts Complete New Year Work Reports

Mapo-gu, Core Projects Report from 9th to 16th 2024... Accelerating Key Focus and Current Projects to Ensure Residents Feel Changes and Results

Seoul Autonomous Districts Complete New Year Work Reports

Seoul's autonomous districts have completed their new year work plans and budget reports.

Mapo-gu, Seongdong-gu, Gwangjin-gu, and others finished reporting their major work plans and budgets for the new year starting last month.

Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su) successfully concluded the '2024 New and Core Projects Report Meeting' from the 9th to the 16th.

In particular, this report meeting set the direction for next year's work focusing on revitalizing the domestic and international livelihood economy amid high inflation, high interest rates, and decreased revenue, while preparing livelihood policies and promotion strategies to realize a 'New Mapo, Better Mapo.' A total of 212 projects, including 45 core projects, were discussed.

Chaired by Mayor Park Gang-su, the meeting significantly expanded communication by including directors and heads from six bureaus, one business office, department heads from all 41 departments, as well as team leaders, staff, and related personnel from district-affiliated organizations. Notably, Mayor Park departed from the usual top-down reporting format by selecting key tasks from each department for reporting, followed by discussions and sharing of visions in a debate-style format, drawing attention.

Practitioners responsible for the actual projects attended the meeting to hear about the importance and direction of the projects, and discussed promotion plans with the mayor, bureau chiefs, and section chiefs, enhancing the completeness of the core projects under the 8th elected term of Mapo-gu.

The report meeting covered major new and core plans for 2024 across safety, tourism, welfare, health, and transportation, including ▲ Establishing a disaster- and accident-resilient Safe Mapo ▲ Building a Mapo-style welfare delivery system through Silppuri Welfare ▲ Expanding filial piety meal services and operating filial piety lodging senior centers ▲ Revitalizing attractive Mapo tourism ▲ 2024 revenue collection targets ▲ Active support for rapid execution of redevelopment and reconstruction ▲ Creating a healing street connecting to the Han River.

Mayor Park highly evaluated creative and necessary projects for the district, such as the 'Silppuri Welfare,' a community- and resident-centered welfare delivery system, while ordering a review of conventional projects that involve massive budget expenditures without verified effectiveness.

Mapo-gu plans to fully focus on accelerating key priority and pending projects in the third year of the 8th elected term so that residents can feel the changes and results. In particular, it will actively link with policy directions such as the central government and Seoul City's 'Walking with the Vulnerable,' focus on securing external funds through various public contests, and faithfully implement pledges and core projects to fulfill promises to residents. Mayor Park Gang-su said, "The core projects presented at this report meeting will be an important stepping stone to fulfilling those promises, so all Mapo-gu employees should carry out their duties with a positive and proactive mindset."

Seongdong-gu, led by Mayor Jeong Won-oh, who is serving his third term and is well-versed in the work, received written reports and only called for explanations on questions.

Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) also completed reporting the new year's major work and the budget proposal to be submitted to the district council last month.

Thus, Seoul's autonomous districts are known to have completed their work reports while drafting their new year budgets.
