Some Suncheon City Council Members' Statement on Public Resource Facilities

Publication of Selection Committee Meeting Minutes, Extension of Deadline for Site Selection Decision Notice, etc.

On the 16th, city councilors belonging to the Democratic Party of Korea's Suncheon (Gap) Regional Committee in Suncheon, Jeollanam-do, issued a 'statement' regarding the site selection for the Suncheon City Public Resource Facility.

These councilors held a meeting on the 6th concerning the Suncheon City Public Resource Facility and reached consensus on three final proposals: ▲ disclosure of the site selection committee meeting minutes ▲ postponement of the site selection decision announcement deadline from December ▲ formation of a special party committee on the public resource facility.

Prior to this, on October 16th, a meeting was held among the Democratic Party's Suncheon Regional Committee city councilors, but no conclusion was reached due to strong reservations expressed by several councilors. However, the Suncheon city councilors reconvened on November 6th and finalized their position after further discussion.

Meanwhile, the affiliated councilors stated, "During the Garden Expo period, we refrained from taking a position to avoid exacerbating divisions and conflicts caused by political interpretations, which could amplify disturbances during the expo. We held a meeting to gather opinions after the Garden Expo concluded."

The meeting noted, "Although there were opinions to withhold a position and some councilors were absent, consensus was reached on the three final proposals," and added, "Going forward, the Democratic Party of Korea's Suncheon (Gap) Regional Committee city councilors will actively represent public opinion through continuous citizen feedback and dialogue regarding the Yeonhyang Public Resource Facility."

The 12 Democratic Party of Korea city councilors from Suncheon (Gap) who publicly announced their position this time are Jeong Hong-jun, Lee Young-ran, Choi Byung-bae, Oh Haeng-sook, Kim Mi-yeon, Shin Jeong-ran, Lee Hyang-gi, Jang Kyung-soon, Kim Tae-hoon, Seo Seon-ran, Jang Kyung-won, and Jeong Gwang-hyun.
