Comprehensive entertainment company Blade Entertainment announced on the 17th that it will enter the foreign film content business through its subsidiary Blade ENT.
Blade ENT released its first foreign film content, Taiwan's Yeogwihyo - The Cursed Game (hereafter Yeogwihyo). Yeogwihyo is a horror film about students playing a campus ghost story AR (augmented reality) game who become trapped in a forbidden quest and face the curse of the ghost story and the reality of evil spirits.
The film ranked number one at the Taiwanese box office and on Netflix when it was released in Taiwan on the 13th of last month. It has attracted attention especially because Si Baek-woo, who showed outstanding acting skills in the domestic hit Love You Forever, stars in the film.
Blade ENT is preparing to release four foreign films by early next year, including The Four Seasons of Lipse, the next work by director Dorota Kobiela, who directed the Polish animation Loving Vincent, as well as The Inseparables (directed by Jeremy Degruson), The Three Musketeers Part 1 and 2 (directed by Martin Bruublong), and Land of Bad (directed by William Eubank).
The company's foreign film content business is led by Director Jo Young-yong, who has worked in domestic distribution and marketing for 23 years at CJ ENM and other companies. Director Jo has participated in the distribution of over 100 works and is a content distribution expert responsible for distributing blockbuster films such as Roaring Currents, Extreme Job, and Ode to My Father.
A representative of Blade Entertainment stated, "We plan to import and distribute about 20 foreign films and animations by the end of next year," and added, "In the second half of next year, we expect to expand our business area to include overseas distribution of Southeast Asian content."
