A marathon festival commemorating the 111th anniversary of Son Ki-jeong's birth and the 87th anniversary of his victory in the marathon at the 11th Berlin Olympics will be held. On the 17th, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that it will hold the '2023 Son Ki-jeong Peace Marathon' on the 19th at Sangam World Cup Park in collaboration with the Son Ki-jeong Memorial Foundation.
The '2023 Son Ki-jeong Peace Marathon' will be held offline again this year, following last year, and for participants from provinces and overseas, an online course (using a marathon app) will also be held concurrently.
The start will be sequential by course at the Peace Plaza in World Cup Park. Full course participants will start first at 8:30 AM, followed by 10km, half course, and 5km participants at intervals of about 5 to 10 minutes.
On the day of the event, from 8:20 AM to 10:30 AM on the 19th, phased traffic control will be implemented on the main marathon sections from World Cup Stadium Intersection through Guryong Intersection, Gayang Bridge, to Gayang Station Intersection.
Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon said, “This Son Ki-jeong Peace Marathon is a race with the meaning of overcoming social and personal crises caused by COVID-19 and economic recession through running activities in daily life,” adding, “We will strive to contribute to expanding the base of community sports and creating a vibrant atmosphere through this event.”
