Seongdong-gu, 2024 Hope Ondol Warm Winter Campaign to Leave No Neighbor Isolated

Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeong Wono) held a Love Thermometer unveiling ceremony at the Seongdong-gu Office on the 16th and officially launched the '2024 Hope Ondol Warm Winter Campaign.'

The 'Hope Ondol Warm Winter Campaign' is a representative winter neighbor-helping project promoted through public-private cooperation, running for three months from the 15th of this month to February 14th of next year. The Love Thermometer unveiling ceremony is a symbolic event marking the start of this campaign.

The event was attended by Seongdong-gu Mayor Jeong Wono, the Secretary General of the Seoul Community Chest of Korea, the Chairperson of the Community Security Council, as well as children, the future leaders. The ceremony proceeded with the pinning of the Love Fruit badge, introduction of ambassadors, unveiling of the thermometer, and commemorative photo session, creating a lively atmosphere for donation participation.

The Seongdong-gu Love Thermometer will operate until February 14th of next year, rising by one degree each time 1% of the fundraising goal is achieved. This year, the target is 1.5 billion won, a 5% increase compared to last year’s fundraising amount, and if the goal is met, the sharing temperature will reach 100 degrees.

The 'Warm Winter Campaign' is annually promoted by the Seoul Community Chest of Korea, Seongdong-gu Community Security Council, and Seongdong-gu to raise private welfare funds through appointing ambassadors, conducting online and offline fundraising, and implementing donation-specialized projects and campaigns. Seongdong-gu has established donation reception desks at the district office and community service centers, and is promoting various methods such as QR code donations, unmanned terminals (kiosks), and mobile donation card terminals to encourage local residents and businesses to participate in neighbor-helping efforts.

The collected donations and goods are used to support vulnerable groups such as low-income residents and elderly living alone through the Seoul Community Chest of Korea. They are mainly utilized for living expenses, housing costs, and medical expenses, greatly contributing to solving social issues in the Seongdong-gu community.

Mayor Jeong Wono of Seongdong-gu stated, "I ask for active participation in the Warm Winter Campaign so that neighbors in need can feel the warmth of the community during the cold winter, and Seongdong-gu will also do its best together."
