Establishing a Foundation for Mutual Economic Exchange at the City Level
On the 16th, Changwon City in Gyeongnam Province welcomed a delegation of five members led by Mayor Fred Jung of Fullerton, California, USA, at the city hall to discuss economic exchanges between the two cities and cooperation plans for the overseas expansion of Changwon companies.
The visit was arranged for Mayor Jung of Fullerton, who was visiting Korea to attend the Hi-Seoul Enterprise Association Forum and engage in economic and cultural exchanges, to explore economic cooperation plans with Changwon City.
Fullerton is a city located in Orange County, California, USA, with a population of 140,000. It has a strong Korean influence with about 40,000 Korean residents and is situated close to Los Angeles International Airport and the Port of Long Beach, making it a city with well-developed logistics and distribution.
Fred Jung, the first Korean American elected as mayor of Fullerton in 2021, successfully secured a second term in 2022, becoming the third mayor in the city’s 150-year history to do so. He currently serves as the vice chairman of the California Mayor’s Conference, chairman of the Southern California Metropolitan Water District, chairman of the Orange County Power Authority (OCPA) board, and procurement director of the Transportation Commission, expanding his influence within California.
Mayor Fred Jung of Fullerton said, “I appreciate the warm hospitality of Changwon City, and I hope that the economic and cultural cooperation plans discussed today will lead to concrete discussions between the two cities in the future.”
Mayor Hong Nam-pyo said, “We welcome Mayor Jung and the delegation from Fullerton. I hope that the mutual cooperative relationship between Changwon and Fullerton will develop solidly in various fields such as economy, culture, and education,” adding, “I hope this mutual exchange cooperation with Fullerton will serve as a foothold for our companies to enter the global market, starting with the U.S. market.”
