Democratic Party Lawmaker SBS Radio Interview
Kim Du-kwan, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea who has been demanding that the Lee Jae-myung leadership run in a difficult electoral district, said on the 16th, "Wherever Representative Lee Jae-myung goes, won't he become a member of the National Assembly? Of course, he will," and argued, "Running in a difficult district is the way to save Representative Lee."
On the same day, Kim appeared on SBS Radio's 'Kim Tae-hyun's Political Show' and said, "Going to a difficult district is the candidate's decision," but also said, "Representative Jeong Seong-ho interpreted it as 'Going to Andong, Gyeongbuk is like going to die,' but I say that if you have the determination of 'sa-juk-saeng' (die to live), both the party and the person will survive."
He added, "For someone like Representative Lee Jae-myung, thinking defensively like 'He will be trapped in Andong, it will be difficult' seems a bit defeatist."
Andong is Representative Lee's hometown. On the 14th, Lee Won-wook, a member of the non-Lee Jae-myung faction, demanded that Representative Lee run in a difficult district and proposed that he run in Andong.
Kim said, "Whether it is Seongnam in Gyeonggi, Daegu, or Andong, there needs to be a message that I will play any role for the party's victory in the general election so that we will not fall behind in the innovation competition with the People Power Party but rather lead it," adding, "Right now, the innovation committee chair In-yo Han or the new party side of former leader Lee Jun-seok are taking the initiative, so it is very regrettable as the first party."
He emphasized, "The moment someone insists on only saving themselves or only winning the election, the party will fail in the election." Kim said, "Representative Lee has a high unfavorable rating because he did not show that he would give up vested interests during the Gyeyang general election, the party leadership election, and the bulletproof National Assembly process due to judicial risks," and "In that respect, various public opinion polls show that the public and party members support the leadership and the commander taking the lead."
Kim viewed Representative Lee's decision to run in a difficult district as the greatest strategy for winning the general election. He said, "The party leadership must take the lead for others to follow," and "There is a clear line between the pro-Lee (pro-Lee Jae-myung) faction and the non-Lee faction, but if Representative Lee makes a decision, the pro-Lee faction will also decide, and the non-Lee faction cannot help but follow. I hope Representative Lee makes a big decision."
