China and Central America Leaders Agree to Resume High-Level Military Communication and Defense Ministry Working Talks

The United States and China have agreed to resume high-level military communication and working-level talks between their armed forces.

According to the results of the summit meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Joe Biden on the 15th (local time) in San Francisco, announced by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the 16th, the two countries agreed to resume high-level military communication, working-level talks between the Ministries of Defense, maritime military security consultations, and commander-level phone calls based on equality and respect.

At the meeting, President Xi stated, "The Taiwan issue has always been the most important and sensitive issue in China-U.S. relations," and added, "China values the positive attitude shown by the U.S. at the Bali meeting." He continued, "The United States must implement its position of not supporting Taiwan independence through concrete actions," and emphasized, "The U.S. should stop arming Taiwan and support China's peaceful reunification." He further added, "China will ultimately be unified and must be unified."

He also openly expressed dissatisfaction with U.S. export controls on China. President Xi said, "The United States has continuously targeted China with measures such as export controls, investment reviews, and unilateral sanctions, seriously damaging China's legitimate interests," and stated, "Suppressing China's science and technology is restraining China's development and depriving the Chinese people of their right to development." Furthermore, he emphasized, "We hope the United States will seriously consider China's concerns, lift unilateral sanctions, and provide a fair, just, and non-discriminatory environment for Chinese companies."
