The city will invest a total of 1.6 billion KRW, including 600 million KRW in national funds such as the Korea Forest Service's Climate Response Fund and 340 million KRW in provincial funds, with the total area of the six urban forests covering 3.3 hectares.

The city plans to first create a 10,000㎡ "Climate Response Urban Forest" in an idle space in front of the Suwon Singal Tollgate in Yeongdeok-dong, Giheung-gu. The "Climate Response Urban Forest" project, which will be implemented for the first time next year, is a large-scale forest creation project in residential and surrounding urban areas to respond to climate crises such as urban heat islands, carbon absorption, and fine dust reduction.
In front of Heungdeok Elementary School in Yeongdeok-dong, Giheung-gu, a "Child Safety Green Forest" will be created. A belt-shaped green space will be established in the school’s child protection zone to secure a safe commuting route and improve the learning environment.
In addition, the city plans to actively utilize small leftover spaces in the city, such as ▲living environment forests ▲small neighborhood parks ▲school forests, to expand the area of urban forests.
A city official said, "We plan to gradually expand urban forests that citizens can experience within residential areas in the city," adding, "We will do our best to improve citizens' quality of life through expanding green spaces and reducing fine dust."
