Promotion of 'Hope Ondol Warm Winter Campaign' Fundraising by Public and Private Sectors Together Until February 14 Next Year... Encouraging Voluntary Participation from Local Residents, Religious Facilities, and Businesses to Spread a Culture of Donation for Neighbors in Need
"This year again, you show the passionate power of love in Gwanak-gu!"
On the 15th, the Gwanak-gu Office plaza was filled with the enthusiasm of residents wishing to share warm love and kindness with their neighbors.
On this day, Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Junhee) held the 'Love Thermometer and Donation Box Installation Ceremony,' energetically marking the start of the '2024 Hope Ondol Warm Winter Campaign.'
The installation ceremony was attended by Mayor Park Junhee of Gwanak-gu, about 30 campaign ambassadors, residents, and Gwanak-gu Office staff.
'Hope Ondol Warm Winter' is a public-private cooperative fundraising campaign hosted by the Seoul Community Chest of Korea and sponsored by Gwanak-gu, conducted annually from November to February of the following year to help low-income neighbors spend a warm winter by uniting local residents' efforts.
Last year, the district exceeded its target of 1.8 billion KRW by raising 2.2724 billion KRW (1.14176 billion KRW in cash donations and 1.13064 billion KRW in in-kind donations).
The district used the collected funds to support living expenses, medical costs, housing, and education for elderly living alone, single-parent families, and families in urgent crisis. Additionally, it implemented 27 various welfare projects, including 'Dream Deliverers' supporting the dreams of children and youth, and the 'Health Drink Support Project' to prevent solitary deaths, across 22 social welfare facilities and organizations in the area.
In particular, the district was honored by being selected as an 'Excellent Autonomous District for the 2023 Hope Ondol Warm Winter Campaign' in recognition of these achievements.
This year, the district will also devote all administrative efforts to spreading a culture of donation and ensuring a warm and compassionate winter for its residents.
During the campaign period, the district will actively identify marginalized groups in welfare blind spots. It plans to deliver various forms of warmth such as love kimchi support, rice sharing, and winter supplies in cooperation with local community centers to ensure that helping hands reach those in need directly.
Residents, businesses, and organizations wishing to participate in the Hope Ondol Warm Winter project can inquire at the Gwanak-gu Welfare Policy Division or local community centers.
Cash donations are accepted until February 14 of next year. After depositing into the Gwanak-gu reception account, donors should submit a cash donation receipt to the Gwanak-gu Welfare Policy Division or local community centers.
Additionally, in July this year, the district became the first autonomous district in Seoul to join the 'Seoul Community Chest of Korea Sharing Leaders Club,' a donors' group.
The 'Seoul Community Chest of Korea Sharing Leaders Club' is a donor recognition program for groups or organizations donating 10 million KRW or more. Within Gwanak-gu, the 'Gwanak-gu Office Staff Always Love Practice Movement' was the first to join, highlighting the district's commitment to donation and sharing.
Mayor Park Junhee said, "Despite the economic difficulties everyone faces amid high prices and high interest rates, the warmth shared has been delivered as even greater strength to our neighbors in need. We ask for active participation so that local residents, businesses, and organizations can raise the temperature of love in Gwanak-gu and create a warm welfare community where no one is left out."
