Donation collection from the 15th to February 14 next year... Target amount 1 billion KRW... Applicants wishing to donate should apply at their local community center... Donated items will be distributed to low-income residents below 120% of median income and social welfare facilities
Gangbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Soon-hee) will carry out the ‘2024 Hope Ondol Warm Winter Campaign’ from the 15th of this month until February 14th next year.
This is a public-private cooperative fundraising campaign in partnership with the Seoul Community Chest of Korea. Since 2001, the district has continuously supported neighbors in need by actively discovering private resources to assist low-income residents and those in blind spots of welfare, as well as spreading a culture of sharing and donation.
The district has set the fundraising goal for the 2024 Warm Winter Campaign at 1 billion KRW and will accept donations from the 15th until February 14th next year. Donations can be made in cash, daily necessities (such as rice, kimchi, briquettes, individually packaged clothing), gift certificates, and other securities.
Donated funds and goods will be transparently and fairly distributed to low-income residents earning less than 120% of the median income, as well as to facilities, institutions, and organizations implementing social welfare projects.
Anyone, including Gangbuk-gu residents, businesses, professional groups, and religious organizations, can participate in donation activities to help neighbors in need. Those wishing to donate can inquire at their local community service center or the district’s Welfare Policy Division.
To ensure the successful promotion of the Warm Winter Campaign, the district held the ‘2024 Hope Ondol Warm Winter Temperature Tower Unveiling Ceremony’ at 11 a.m. on the 15th in the large auditorium on the 4th floor of the district office. About 30 people attended, including Mayor Lee Soon-hee, Chairperson Choi Chi-hyo of the Gangbuk-gu Council and council members, the chairperson of the local community security council, representatives of the neighborhood association, and outstanding donors from the 2023 Warm Winter Campaign.
After the campaign concludes, the district plans to send letters of appreciation to residents and organizations that participated in the 2024 Warm Winter Campaign, and award commendations and plaques to outstanding donors. Additionally, the list of sponsors and details of support will be published in the Gangbuk-gu newsletter.
Furthermore, until the campaign ends on February 14th next year, the Love Temperature Tower will be operated at the Samgaksan Fountain (located in Songjung-dong). The Love Temperature Tower’s temperature will rise by 10℃ each time 10% (100 million KRW) of the fundraising goal is achieved.
At the unveiling ceremony, Mayor Lee Soon-hee said, “Through the Warm Winter Campaign, we want to offer comfort and a helping hand to our neighbors in Gangbuk-gu who will face a cold and lonely winter. I hope many people will join in the culture of sharing by sending warm hearts, and Gangbuk-gu will also do its best to create a welfare city where everyone lives together happily without exclusion.”
