Volvo Cars' SUV EX30 Named Car of the Year by The Sun in the UK

Volvo Cars' next-generation premium electric SUV, the EX30, has been named 'Car of the Year' by the UK daily newspaper The Sun.

The Volvo EX30 is the brand's first compact electric SUV, developed to drive new customer demand in line with the diversifying global electric vehicle trends.

To achieve this, it was designed based on Scandinavian design and cutting-edge technology to deliver top-level safety and brand experience despite its small size. Additionally, it achieves the lowest carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions among all previous models by carefully selecting all materials used as well as minimizing carbon emissions throughout the entire production and product lifecycle.

In particular, the EX30 was selected as The Sun's 'Car of the Year' for setting a benchmark in its class with its new pure electric powertrain, advanced technology, excellent quality and safety, Scandinavian design, and competitively priced policy.

Rob Gill, editor of The Sun Motors, said, “The EX30 not only took the crown for this year’s compact SUV/crossover but also emerged as the unrivaled winner of the ‘Sun Car of the Year.’ It offers the safe and cool Scandinavian style and sustainability that we currently expect from Volvo at an unexpectedly affordable price. This will undoubtedly be a phenomenal hit.”

Alongside this, the EX30 was also named ‘Compact SUV/Crossover of the Year’ at the News UK Motor Awards, selected by major UK automotive media including The Sunday Times.

Kristian Elvefors, Managing Director of Volvo Cars UK, stated, “This award reinforces our belief that offering models that cater to diverse lifestyles and needs, and above all, fit suitable budgets, will help change public perception of pure electric vehicles. The success of the EX30 will play a pivotal role in the brand’s growth and further elevate our leadership in the electric vehicle sector.”

Meanwhile, the Volvo EX30 is set for its domestic debut and pre-orders in Korea this November. It will be launched domestically with a rear-wheel-drive single motor extended range electric powertrain that supports not only urban driving but also weekend long-distance travel. It combines a 69.0kWh NMC battery designed for high energy efficiency, enabling a maximum driving range of up to 475 km (WLTP standard) on a single charge. However, the domestic specifications are yet to be finalized.

In particular, Volvo Cars Korea plans to price the EX30 to maximize eligibility for electric vehicle subsidies to promote the expansion of electric vehicle adoption and popularize Swedish premium cars. Pre-orders for the Volvo EX30 will begin at 1 PM on the 28th via the official Volvo Cars Korea website, and by subscribing to ‘Receive Latest News,’ customers can receive real-time updates on detailed domestic specifications and pricing information.
