"Welcome to the Designation of 16,000 Households in Yongin Idong District"
"We will focus administrative efforts to create an excellent 'Job (職) · Residence (住) · Leisure (樂) Semiconductor High-Tech City' in Idong-eup, Yongin."
Lee Sang-il, Mayor of Yongin City, Gyeonggi Province, announced his support for the successful development of the 'Idong Public Housing District (Idong District)' located in Idong-eup, Cheoin-gu, Yongin.
On the 15th, Mayor Lee said, "I welcome the government's decision to designate the Idong District near the Idong-Namsa Advanced System Semiconductor National Industrial Complex and create a new city," adding, "We will concentrate the city's administrative power to ensure that the Idong-eup area becomes a city well-equipped with living infrastructure such as transportation, education, culture, and sports."

On the same day, the government announced a supply plan for public housing districts totaling 80,000 households across eight districts, including ▲Yongin Idong (16,000 households) ▲Osan Segyo 3 (31,000 households) ▲Guri Topyeong 2 (18,500 households) ▲Cheongju Bunpyeong 2 (9,000 households) ▲Jeju Hwabuk 2 (5,500 households).
Among them, the Idong District is a semiconductor hinterland new city developed on a 2.28 million square meter area in Cheon, Meok, Deokseong, and Simi-ri in Idong-eup, Cheoin-gu, Yongin City. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) presented a blueprint stating that the Idong District will be developed into a convenient and safe city by extensively introducing advanced smart city technologies in areas such as living, environment, safety, and transportation.
Mayor Lee added, "Since the government has announced plans to significantly improve transportation conditions to make the city convenient and to realize transportation-first, residence-later, we will closely consult with MOLIT to ensure that the metropolitan transportation measures are well established."
Mayor Lee also mentioned the need for additional housing site development due to the large-scale semiconductor industrial complex construction. He explained, "Once the Idong-Namsa System Semiconductor Industrial Complex and Wonsam Yongin Semiconductor Cluster are completed, there will be tens of thousands of resident workers, and many derivative jobs will be created, so we are also considering the need to develop a considerable scale of additional housing sites," adding, "We will discuss this with MOLIT and others at an appropriate time."
He particularly expressed his intention to actively promote plans to make the new city district a good place to raise children by ensuring that childcare facilities, libraries, cultural facilities, schools, hospitals, and academies can be established.
Earlier, in July, the government designated the Yongin Cheoin-gu Idong-Namsa Advanced System Semiconductor National Industrial Complex (Samsung Electronics), Wonsam Yongin Semiconductor Cluster (SK Hynix), and Samsung Electronics Giheung Campus as advanced semiconductor specialized complexes. The Idong District and Osan Segyo 3 District, newly designated as public housing districts, will serve as hinterland cities supporting the large-scale semiconductor belt connecting Yongin, Pyeongtaek, and Hwaseong.
Inside and outside the city, it is expected that the designation of the Idong District will help balance development by accelerating the development of Cheoin-gu, which has been relatively underdeveloped compared to Suji and Giheung districts.
Meanwhile, once designated as a public housing district, according to the Public Housing Special Act, the establishment and modification of the basic urban plan, zoning for urban areas, urban planning facilities, district unit planning zones, and other urban management plans will be decided together, significantly shortening the project period compared to general development projects.
The Idong District will undergo public inspection simultaneously with the announcement of the designation plan. The plan can be viewed at the city's Urban Policy Division or the Idong-eup Administrative Welfare Center, and residents can submit their opinions in writing until December 5.
