Bedbug carcasses found on the 9th following student report
Under the same jurisdiction as 'Incheon Bedbug-Infested Sauna'
Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education, "Will strengthen quarantine measures"
At a middle school in Incheon, bedbugs appeared, leading to pest control efforts for over a month, but it has been confirmed that bedbugs have reappeared.
According to the Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education on the 14th, bedbugs were consecutively found in classrooms at a middle school in Seo-gu on the 6th of last month and the 9th of this month. It was confirmed that students discovered dead bedbugs in the classroom and reported them. The school immediately reported the matter to the Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education.
The Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education provided guidance to students on the same day and conducted pest control work after school hours.
Although the school has been carrying out pest control operations for over a month since the bedbugs were first discovered, they have not been able to completely eradicate them.
In particular, the school is known to be located within the same district as a sauna, which was temporarily closed after adult bedbugs and larvae were found there on the 13th of last month.
The Metropolitan Office of Education plans to operate a "Bedbug Intensive Inspection and Special Pest Control Period" for four weeks until the 8th of next month, using this incident as an opportunity.
Situation rooms and counseling desks will be operated at the Metropolitan Office of Education and five education support offices, and upon receiving reports, they plan to coordinate with the local health centers for response.
They also plan to strengthen pest control measures by ensuring detailed inspections are conducted at schools operating dormitories or sports team training camps.
An official from the Metropolitan Office of Education stated, "Despite continuous pest control efforts until last week, bedbugs were found again at the same school," adding, "We will continue to monitor the situation."
Meanwhile, bedbugs are pests that mainly hide in dark places or cracks in walls and can survive for several months without feeding on human or animal blood. They are also known to be difficult to eradicate due to resistance to insecticides.
