Nowon-gu, Seoul (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it will hold the ‘Cheongchun Terrace Coffee Festival’ at the Gyeongchun Line Forest Trail.
The ‘Cheongchun Terrace Coffee Festival’ is an event that utilizes the unique atmosphere and local resources of the Gongneung-dong coffee street commercial district, centered around the Gyeongchun Line Forest Trail, which has become a hot place. It was prepared to showcase Nowon-gu’s distinctive alley brands and revitalize the commercial district through this.
The event will take place on November 18 from 3 PM to 8 PM along a 150-meter section of the road in front of Hyundai Seongwoo Apartment near the Gyeongchun Line Forest Trail. Traffic will be controlled from 7 AM to 11 PM for the event.
The event will be operated by themes, starting with the ▲main stage where various performances will be held, followed by ▲Coffee Terrace Zone (14 locations), ▲Coffee Play Zone (2 locations), and ▲Art Free Market Zone (14 locations).
The Coffee Terrace Zone, the core space of the festival, is a space for local coffee tasting and purchasing. Fourteen local cafes with a strong fan base will participate and showcase their signature menus. Visitors can taste coffee for free using reusable cups distributed at the tasting cup distribution point or their own tumblers, and freshly roasted coffee beans can be purchased at prices cheaper than the market.
At the Coffee Play Zone, visitors can experience various coffee-related activities. They can roast raw coffee beans themselves using a handy roaster and make hand-drip coffee using a dripper, a coffee extraction tool. There is also a ‘making flowerpot using recycled coffee grounds (coffee residue left after extracting coffee liquid)’ experience, which is worth noting for visitors interested in eco-friendly upcycling. Participation is on a first-come, first-served basis for each experience, and the cost is free.
At the Art Free Market Zone, visitors can purchase desserts such as financier, sandwiches, and pudding that go well with coffee, as well as uniquely designed products produced by local workshops such as soap, diffusers, and objets d’art at affordable prices.
Special performances to fill the venue are also abundantly prepared. Following vocal performances and violin playing by student clubs from Seoul National University of Science and Technology, comedian Kim Hae-jun, well known as the character ‘Coffee Boss Choi Jun,’ will make a surprise appearance to elevate the festival’s atmosphere.
Meanwhile, the Gongneung-dong commercial district along the Gyeongchun Line Forest Trail was recognized for its growth potential and was finally selected in January for Seoul City’s public project ‘Local Brand Development Project.’ Over three years, up to 3 billion KRW will be invested to support various developments such as infrastructure and content development, and strengthening merchant capabilities to promote the commercial district’s growth.
Recently, a complex cultural space themed ‘Cheongchun Terrace Station’ was opened within the commercial district. It operates as a pop-up store until December 15, providing various services for visitors such as commercial district guidance, rest areas, and hand-drip coffee that visitors can make themselves.
Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, said, “This coffee festival will be a great opportunity to promote the Gongneung-dong cafe brands that have organically emerged,” and added, “We will continue to discover and support distinctive local brands to contribute to revitalizing the local economy.”
