"100 Years, A New Beginning"... Mapo-gu Longevity Celebration Fund of 1 Million Won Paid

Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Kang-su) will provide a longevity congratulatory payment of 1 million won to residents aged 100 or older starting next year.

To promote a culture of respect for the elderly and improve their quality of life, Mapo-gu established the Ordinance on the Payment of Longevity Congratulatory Money in Mapo-gu, Seoul, last July, completing preparations for support.

The longevity congratulatory payment is targeted at seniors who have lived continuously for three years in Mapo-gu and have reached the age of 100.

If they apply at the local community service center within one year from their birthday month, they can receive a one-time longevity congratulatory payment of 1 million won.

Additionally, seniors who are currently 100 years or older and have lived continuously for three years in Mapo-gu can also apply. In this case, they must apply for the longevity congratulatory payment at their local community service center by December 31 of this year.

If the individual cannot apply in person, they may delegate a family member or others to apply on their behalf. For detailed information on the application process, contact the Mapo-gu Senior Support Division.

Currently, there are a total of 52 seniors aged 100 or older in Mapo-gu, among whom 48 have lived continuously for more than three years and are eligible to receive the longevity congratulatory payment.

Mapo-gu plans to send individual notices to eligible seniors by the end of this year, and starting next year, will actively promote the program by sending advance notices each month to seniors turning 100.

Park Kang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, “The seniors who are now 100 years old are a generation that endured the Japanese colonial period and the Korean War, and built the current global powerhouse, the Republic of Korea.” He added, “Mapo-gu will continue to provide warm filial administration to enhance the quality of life and happy old age of our seniors.”
