Yeongdeungpo-gu, Intensive Crackdown and Campaign on Harmful Environments for Youth Before and After the College Entrance Exam

Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it will conduct intensive crackdowns on harmful environments for youth around schools and areas densely populated with harmful businesses before and after the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT).

From November 13 to December 1, the district will collaborate with the Yeongdeungpo Police Station and the Yeongdeungpo-gu Youth Harmful Environment Monitoring Team to crack down on ▲ violations of youth entry and employment bans at new and variant room cafes, pubs, cafes, lodging businesses, etc. ▲ violations of youth entry time restrictions at karaoke rooms, PC rooms, jjimjilbangs (Korean saunas), etc. ▲ sales of alcohol and tobacco ▲ distribution of inappropriate flyers ▲ condoning or aiding cohabitation of opposite-sex youth at motels and similar establishments.

Additionally, the district will guide youth wandering the streets late at night to return home and take the lead in protecting youth exposed to drinking, smoking, violence, and runaway situations. Youth in crisis and out-of-school youth will be supported through connections with local youth counseling and welfare centers, out-of-school youth support centers, and other youth-related organizations.

Furthermore, on November 16, the day of the CSAT, the district will hold a street campaign around Yeongdeungpo Station in cooperation with the Yeongdeungpo Police Station, the Yeongdeungpo-gu Youth Harmful Environment Monitoring Team, and the Yeongdeungpo-gu Youth Counseling and Welfare Center. Promotional materials will be distributed to raise awareness and create a safe environment for youth, as well as to promote various programs for youth in crisis and out-of-school youth.

Meanwhile, the Yeongdeungpo-gu Youth Harmful Environment Monitoring Team regularly conducts spot checks around harmful environments for youth and visits schools until the CSAT day to deliver messages of protection and encouragement to test-takers through support events.

Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, “After the CSAT, youth tend to relax and feel a sense of liberation, which increases the likelihood of engaging in deviant behaviors such as drinking and smoking. We will do our best to ensure that the youth, who are the future leaders, are not exposed to harmful environments and can grow up safely and healthily.”
