On the 10th, Autumn Flower Seed Sharing Event and Intergenerational Cultural Performance Held at Jeonnong-dong Knowledge Flower Garden... Creating a Flower Garden Full of Seasonal Attractions Including Spring Flower Seed Sowing and Winter Landscape Lighting Installation
On the 10th, as winter approached, a 'Flower Seed Sharing Event' was held at the Garden of Knowledge (691-3 Jeonnong-dong) in Dongdaemun-gu, where harvested flower seeds from the vibrant autumn flowers were distributed to residents.
Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) transformed the site of the Seoul Metropolitan Library in Jeonnong-dong, which had been left unused as an empty lot for over 10 years, into the approximately 5,000-pyeong-scale 'Garden of Knowledge,' which opened last September. Since its opening, the Garden of Knowledge has become a hot spot in Dongdaemun-gu where residents can sit on bean bags placed throughout the area to enjoy 'flower gazing' or where children can freely play ball games on the lawn park.
From the 10th to the 12th, at the end of autumn, the district held a 'Flower Seed Sharing Event' where residents visiting the Garden of Knowledge could freely take flower seeds. The seeds distributed to residents included four types: zinnia, cosmos, yellow cosmos, and dwarf sunflower. Along with gardening education by Dongdaemun-gu gardeners, various events such as making bouquets with fully bloomed cosmos brought great joy to visitors of the flower garden.
Additionally, on the afternoon of the 10th, cultural performances that resonated across generations were held, including tap dance accompanied by sweet jazz music, juggling using balls and clubs, and busking performances, providing residents with a healing time to enjoy both flowers and cultural life simultaneously.
The district plans to sow flower seeds such as blue barley, rapeseed, poppy, and cornflower in the Garden of Knowledge by the 16th, aiming to offer residents a bright spring garden around May next year.
Moreover, to provide a resting place for residents visiting the garden even in winter, a transparent dome house will be installed to shelter from the cold, along with decorative lighting shaped like fireflies and balloons, offering nighttime attractions during the winter season.
Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, said, “I hope residents will nurture the autumn flower seeds distributed this time well so that they can feel the autumn atmosphere even inside their homes next year.” He added, “In 2024, we are preparing various cultural events such as flower gazing, movie watching, and cultural performances with splendid spring flowers at the Garden of Knowledge, so we ask for the residents’ great interest.”
