Seongbuk-gu Wins Encouragement Award at 2023 Seoul Autonomous Disaster Prevention Corps Performance Report Meeting

The Autonomous Disaster Prevention Corps of Seongbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) received the "Encouragement Award" at the "Seoul Autonomous Disaster Prevention Corps Performance Report Meeting," held for the first time in 10 years on the 14th at the multipurpose room of Seoul City Hall, where members from 25 autonomous districts gathered in one place.


The Seongbuk-gu Autonomous Disaster Prevention Corps was founded in 2011 and currently has about 430 members active across 20 neighborhoods as of 2023. The members patrol their neighborhoods to identify risk factors and work hard to prevent accidents. Additionally, they support on-site recovery and relief activities when disasters occur.


This performance report meeting, hosted by Seoul City, was organized to enhance the pride of the Autonomous Disaster Prevention Corps and share excellent activity cases to strengthen citizen-led autonomous disaster prevention capabilities. Autonomous Disaster Prevention Corps from 25 autonomous districts, including Seongbuk-gu, attended to share their activity achievements.


The Seongbuk-gu Autonomous Disaster Prevention Corps presented a case under the theme "Making Seongbuk Safe and Secure," and throughout this year, they mobilized 3,368 people and carried out 402 activities in three areas: disaster prevention, response/preparedness, and recovery, taking responsibility for Seongbuk's safety.


Kim Kyung-nam, head of the Autonomous Disaster Prevention Corps, said, "I am grateful for the hard work of the members who fulfill their duties in their respective positions, and also thank Seongbuk-gu Office for supporting the activities of the Autonomous Disaster Prevention Corps." He added, "Taking this award as an opportunity, we will do our best to ensure that the Seongbuk-gu Autonomous Disaster Prevention Corps continues to play a vital role as guardians of the community's safety."


Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, said, "Thanks to the activities of the Seongbuk-gu Autonomous Disaster Prevention Corps, our area has become safer." He promised, "We will continue to unwaveringly support the activities of the Autonomous Disaster Prevention Corps for the safer daily lives of our residents."
