MBC 'Kim Jong-bae Focus' Interview
"Lee Jae-myung is an Establishment Figure... Must Lead by Example"
Lee Won-wook, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea from the Bi-myeong faction, proposed to party leader Lee Jae-myung that he run in his hometown of Andong, Gyeongbuk, in next year's general election. In an interview with MBC Radio's 'Kim Jong-bae's Focus' on the 14th, Lee said, "(Leader Lee) is currently one of the most representative vested interests in our country's politics," urging him to set an example by running in a difficult district.
When asked why Leader Lee should run in a difficult district, he said, "The party leader has been mayor of Seongnam twice, governor of Gyeonggi Province, then a member of the National Assembly, and was a presidential candidate. Now he is even the party leader. Where else can you find a vested interest of this level?"
Lee also said that as a three-term lawmaker, he too belongs to the vested interests, but emphasized, "If Leader Lee and his close aides choose first, I will go wherever the party tells me to go at any time."
Regarding the formation of a 'Principles and Common Sense' group among Bi-myeong faction lawmakers, he explained, "We are coordinating with lawmakers to officially launch it in the near future," adding, "This is not a study group; this is a political faction group."
Lee said, "We plan to address the fundamental problems of the Republic of Korea and politics," pointing out, "One of the biggest problems in Korea is political polarization, hostile politics, and hate politics."
He then directed a message to Leader Lee, saying, "What we keep insisting on is to practice the party's innovative image by breaking ties with the Gaeddal and hardline YouTubers," and reiterated, "In particular, a symbolic act of breaking ties with the Gaeddal can start with resigning from the position of village chief of Jaemyeong's village. It's very simple."
