Strengthened Real-Time Monitoring on Weekends
'Digital Cleaning Campaign' Underway
LG Electronics announced on the 14th that it has identified a significant number of disguised sales sites established on open markets (online intermediary malls) this year and, in cooperation with open market operators, has suspended or shut down the operation of the identified disguised sales sites.
Recently, disguised sales sites have been inducing visitors who come through lowest price searches to enter separate sites or encouraging cash payments instead of card payments under the pretext of discounts to steal payments.

LG Electronics is continuously monitoring open markets to prevent customers from falling victim to disguised sales site scams. It has been found that damages from disguised sales sites surge on weekends when response efforts are lax, so real-time monitoring is conducted even on weekends.
Since May, LG Electronics has been conducting a 'Digital Cleaning Campaign.' Collaborating with popular YouTube channels such as '1 Minute or Less' (2 million subscribers), 'Hogang Rescue Team' (1.4 million subscribers), and 'Techmong' (690,000 subscribers), they have produced and posted content introducing ▲actual scam cases ▲how to distinguish fraudulent companies ▲how to verify official certified stores.
LG Electronics not only detects disguised sales sites registered on open markets but also identifies disguised sales sites using similar company names or domains (internet addresses). These are listed in the 'Fraudulent Site Information' section of the 'Seoul Electronic Commerce Center' or reported to the police through formal complaints. Prior to this, to prevent internet addresses that could evoke LG Electronics from being exploited for fraudulent activities, LG Electronics purchased domains containing 'LG,' 'LGbrand,' and 'BEST.'
Additionally, LG Electronics designates trustworthy online distributors as official certified stores so that customers can purchase products with confidence. Official certified stores display the ‘LG Electronics Online Certified Store’ logo and a moving hologram on their site banners. As a result of these efforts, complaints related to damages caused by disguised sales sites received by LG Electronics have decreased by more than 90% compared to the previous year.
Jang Jin-hyuk, Executive Vice President and Head of LG Electronics Korea Online Group, said, "As online scam methods become more sophisticated, we will strengthen various preventive activities and inspections to prevent damages in advance," adding, "We will continue to protect customers from fraudulent acts that exploit the reputation of 'LG Home Appliances as Premium.'"
