The Nakdong River Basin Environmental Office will hold the ‘2023 Second Half Nakdong River Basin Water Supply Support Council’ on the 14th at the Daegu National Water Industry Cluster, with water facility managers from 44 local governments in the Nakdong River basin participating.

Along with presentations on best practices in water facility operation and management, there will be information sharing on cases of response to water supply incidents such as turbidity occurrence at the Nakdong River Water Supply Support Center, the development of an AI deep learning-based midge larva identification model, and support cases for midge biological characteristics and species identification by the National Institute of Biological Resources.

The Nakdong River Office plans to collect local governments’ suggestions regarding water purification plant operations and urge the supply of clean and safe tap water through prevention of larva occurrence.

This year, 62.9 billion KRW in national funds are being supported for three projects to ensure safe tap water supply: renovation of aging water supply facilities, development of drinking water sources in island areas, and establishment of a small organism response system at water purification plants.

48 billion KRW has been newly allocated and is being intensively supported for the project to establish a small organism response system at water purification plants to physically block larva occurrence at the source.

Lee Junhee, Director of the Basin Management Bureau, said, “We will do our utmost to supply clean and safe tap water through smooth communication and cooperation among the Environmental Office, local governments, Korea Water Resources Corporation, and other water facility management entities.”
