Gumi City Opens Grape Export Route... Completion of 'Mueul Nonghyup Grape Export Sorting Center' On the 10th, Gumi City held the completion ceremony of the 'Mueul Nonghyup Grape Export Sorting Center' with about 100 attendees, including grape farmers.

This project was selected in the '2022 Regional Revitalization Crop Base Creation Project' contest by Mueul Nonghyup, which invested 700 million KRW in the project.

The facility covers 562㎡ (170 pyeong) and includes a preparation room, sorting line, and country-specific cold storage, meeting the quarantine requirements for grape exports. It is available for use by all grape farmers within Gumi City.

Over the past two years, Mueul Nonghyup has conducted pilot small-scale exports of Shine Muscat grapes to Vietnam and Hong Kong. With the completion of the export sorting center this year, exports to the United States, Europe, Australia, and other regions will be possible from 2024, which is expected to help increase the income of grape farmers.

In Gumi City, the number of grape farms has rapidly increased over the past five years, with a cultivation area of 130 hectares and about 400 farms engaged in the grape industry.

The city held a European grape variety demonstration event last August and is working to enhance the competitiveness of the grape industry by providing cultivation technology guidance tailored to consumer preferences and expanding cultivation areas.

Mayor Kim Jang-ho said, “As the grape cultivation area increases, I congratulate the establishment of the export joint sorting center, a long-cherished project of farmers, and I will actively support improving grape quality and expanding exports in the future.”
