"Usually Shave... Stopped After Being Booked"
"Expression of Evidence Tampering Attempt, Serious Defamation"
G-Dragon (real name Kwon Ji-yong, 35), a singer accused of drug use, strongly denied allegations during a recent police investigation that he attempted to destroy evidence by shaving his entire body.
On the 10th, Kim Soo-hyun, a lawyer from the law firm K1 Chamber representing G-Dragon, issued a statement refuting the reports, saying, "The claim that he shaved his entire body is a clear falsehood."
Lawyer Kim first emphasized, "This case saw the court dismiss the communication warrant due to insufficient evidence, and no search warrant for hair or other samples was issued. Nevertheless, G-Dragon has actively cooperated with the investigation."
He then rebutted the evidence destruction allegations. He stated that G-Dragon’s hair was long enough for testing. Kim said, "G-Dragon maintained long hair sufficient for analysis as a male and voluntarily submitted the amount of hair requested by the police. He has not dyed or bleached his hair for about the past one year and five months."
Regarding body hair removal, Kim clarified that it was a routine practice and that G-Dragon did not shave at all after the news of his investigation broke, indicating no intent to destroy evidence. Kim stated, "During the police investigation, G-Dragon explained that he normally shaved regularly, and he has not shaved at all since the news of his investigation was reported. The police’s premature judgment and the expression suggesting he shaved his entire body to hide evidence seriously damaged G-Dragon’s reputation."
Furthermore, Kim emphasized, "G-Dragon voluntarily appeared to swiftly clarify the truth and resolve suspicions to reduce confusion. He actively cooperated with the investigation by voluntarily submitting not only urine and hair samples but also fingernails and toenails." He added, "He clearly expressed willingness to provide additional leg hair beyond the body hair requested by the police."
Kim also said, "The initial report has been corrected, and we will take a strong legal stance against speculative future reports. We ask the media to cooperate responsibly and carefully based on facts to prevent irreversible damage to the famous celebrity G-Dragon."
Earlier, the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency’s Narcotics Crime Investigation Division booked G-Dragon without detention last month on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act. G-Dragon has denied all charges and voluntarily appeared at the investigation agency on the 6th for about four hours of questioning. A rapid reagent test conducted that day returned a negative result. The police collected G-Dragon’s hair and fingernails and requested a detailed analysis from the National Forensic Service, and are awaiting the results.
