Yoon Holds Roundtable with Kishida at Stanford University, USA... Discusses 'Advanced Technology'

APEC Opportunity Realized... Japan-Korea and US-Japan-Korea Cooperation Expected to Discuss Economic Areas

President Yoon Suk-yeol will hold a roundtable discussion with Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio on the occasion of attending the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit on the 17th.


The Presidential Office announced on the afternoon of the 10th that President Yoon, while visiting Stanford University in San Francisco, USA, to attend the APEC Summit, will participate in a roundtable discussion with Prime Minister Kishida on cooperation in advanced technology sectors among Korea, Japan, and the Korea-US-Japan trilateral partnership.

Earlier, Japanese Kyodo News and others reported the possibility of a joint lecture at Stanford University by President Yoon and Prime Minister Kishida. Citing Japanese government officials, the news agency stated that the two leaders are expected to explain Korea-Japan and Korea-US-Japan cooperation in the field of economic security and mention improvements in bilateral relations.


It is also expected that President Yoon will explain that North Korea is obtaining funds for nuclear and missile development through illegal cyber activities and will mention strengthening Korea-US-Japan cyber countermeasures. Prime Minister Kishida is anticipated to emphasize trilateral cooperation among Korea, the US, and Japan regarding supply chain construction for critical minerals including semiconductors and artificial intelligence (AI).


Meanwhile, President Yoon will attend the APEC Summit from the 15th to the 17th. APEC is the world's largest regional cooperation organization discussing economic growth and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region, accounting for 60% of the world's gross domestic product (GDP) and 48% of trade volume. Korea led the launch of APEC in 1989 and will serve as the chair country in 2025. President Yoon will participate in a gathering with overseas Koreans in San Francisco, the APEC CEO Summit, an investment declaration ceremony, a welcome reception hosted by the host country, and a dialogue with the Korean future generation in advanced technology sectors.
