On the 8th, Hyosung announced on the 9th that as part of its ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management activities, including marine ecosystem conservation and carbon neutrality, it carried out eelgrass harvesting, transplantation, and coastal cleanup activities at Dapo Port beach located in Dapori, Geoje-si, Gyeongnam.


About 30 participants, including employees from the holding company Hyosung Corporation and its four major affiliates?Hyosung TNC Co., Ltd., Hyosung Advanced Materials Co., Ltd., Hyosung Heavy Industries Co., Ltd., and Hyosung Chemical Co., Ltd.?as well as officials from the Korea Fisheries Resources Agency and Geoje City, planted 10,000 eelgrass shoots and conducted a marine ecosystem protection campaign.


Eelgrass is a marine plant that grows underwater and is designated as a legally protected marine species under the Marine Ecosystem Act. Known as blue carbon, a carbon sink of the marine ecosystem, eelgrass is reported to have a carbon reduction effect of 4.07 tons per hectare annually.


Hyosung is the first private company to participate in the conservation and management of eelgrass forests. At the end of last year, Hyosung contributed to the Rural and Fishing Village Win-Win Cooperation Fund for eelgrass forest management projects, including monitoring the distribution status and habitat environment of eelgrass and transplanting eelgrass to necessary locations.


An employee of Hyosung who participated in the event said, "We feel proud to be able to join marine ecosystem conservation activities together with the company," adding, "We hope Hyosung expands ESG management as a global company and will actively participate in various activities involving employees."
