Social Organizations by Eupmyeon Hold Event Supporting the Attraction of Pumped Storage Power Plant
The enthusiasm for attracting a pumped-storage power plant in Gurye-gun, Jeollanam-do, has heated up.
From the 4th to the 8th, events supporting the attraction of the Gurye pumped-storage power plant were held across all eup and myeon in Gurye-gun, centered around local social organizations.
Residents gathered mainly through eup and myeon social organizations, shouting for the attraction of the Gurye pumped-storage power plant and appealing to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy to select Gurye-gun as the site for the pumped-storage power plant project.
Kim Young-min, chairman of the Gurye Regional Development Innovation Council, who participated in the event, said, “A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity has come to Gurye-gun, which is facing the crisis of local extinction,” and added, “The people of Gurye will wholeheartedly support the attraction of the pumped-storage power plant to promote regional development and overcome the extinction crisis.”
Gurye-gun has completed tours and briefings on the Muju pumped-storage power plant for all villages in Muncheok-myeon, the planned site for the power plant, as well as for all eup and myeon in Gurye-gun.
According to the county, currently 93.4% of Muncheok-myeon residents support the attraction of the pumped-storage power plant. In addition, about 3,000 attraction supporters, including around 100 members of the Muncheok-myeon attraction committee, residents, and hometown associations, are actively engaged in promotion activities.
Currently, six local governments nationwide (Jeollanam-do Gurye, Gokseong, Gyeongnam Hapcheon, Gyeongbuk Bonghwa, Yeongyang, and Chungnam Geumsan) have entered the competition to attract pumped-storage power plants, and 2 to 4 of these local governments are expected to be selected as the final sites.
